§ Mr. Wareingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to propose changes in the common agricultural policy following the recent agreement reached by the member countries of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade at Punta del Este; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 30 October 1986]: Within the European Economic Community, we have consistently advocated changes to the Common Agricultural Policy to make it more responsive to the market place, and to reduce the production and the budgetary costs of surpluses. Such policies would undoubtedly make a positive contribution towards the successful negotiation of a new GATT round.
