§ Mr. Peter BottomleyI am generally satisfied with the types of safety fences used in the central reserves and verges of motorways and trunk roads and have no plans to introduce concrete barriers on an experimental basis. The Department has a programme of research and development of safety fences and barriers of different types, including concrete barriers. Satisfactory results may lead to changes in the future.
