§ Mr. Knoxasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has given any instructions to the Civil Aviation Authority with regard to extended twin-engined aircraft operations, about the guarantees required by the 225W Authority to ensure that data on precautionary and enforced shutdowns is accurate and includes all such shutdowns as required under CAP 513.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe Civil Aviation Authority is statutorily responsible for aviation safety and I do not give it instructions about it. The CAA's civil aviation publication 513 contains guidelines for the approval of extended range operations by United Kingdom-registered twin engined aircraft. Under article 85 of the Air Navigaton Order 1985 all precautionary and enforced shut-downs of engines on such aircraft must be reported to the authority. Civil Aviation publication 382 gives details of this procedure.
