§ Mr. TrippierThe information is not available in the detail requested. There is no central record of all engineering apprentices, many of whom are employed outside the engineering industry.
However, the engineering industry training board has maintained a record of those trainees registering the basic craft and technician training. This record covers firms within scope of the board. Figures for the years 1966–67 to 1985–86 are given at table 1. In addition, since 1977, the board has maintained a record of those trainees employed by companies in other industries who choose to register their trainees with the board. This record, given at table 2, does not claim to include all engineering craft and technician trainees in industries other than engineering.
Formal records are not maintained of engineering apprentices who have been made redundant. However, 1006W since 1980 the engineering industry training board has kept a record of the number of redundant trainees who have come to its attention. This is given at table 3.
