§ Mr. Parryasked the Minister for the Arts what is the estimate of the budget of national museums and galleries on Merseyside in the financial years 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1988–89.
§ Mr. LuceThe grant-in-aid for the national museums and galleries on Merseyside is £8.745 million for 1986–87. I expect this to be broadly maintained in real terms for the next two years.
§ Mr. Parryasked the Minister for the Arts (1) if there are any plans to appoint a historian to the board of trustees of the Merseyside Museum of Labour History; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will list the names and occupations of members of the board of trustees of the Merseyside Museum of Labour History.
§ Mr. LuceThe Merseyside Museum of Labour History is the responsibility of the board of trustees of the national museums and galleries on Merseyside. I listed the present members of the board, and their occupations, in my reply of 21 October to the hon. Member for Liverpool, West Derby (Mr. Wareing). I have no plans at present to make any further appointments to the board.
§ Mr. Parryasked the Minister for the Arts what representations he has received concerning the future of the present siting of the Merseyside Museum of Labour History.
§ Mr. LuceThe siting of the Merseyside Museum of Labour History is a matter for the trustees of the national museums and galleries on Merseyside. I understand that the trustees are to review certain accommodation questions shortly. I have received no direct representations on the subject, but my hon. Friend the Member for Wirral, West (Mr. Hunt) has drawn to my attention a letter from the Merseyside divisional organiser of the Transport and General Workers Union.
