§ Mr. Peter BottomleyLetters objecting to the decision have been received from the Merseyside chamber of commerce and industry and from a member of the public. Another member of the public has written to my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister. It has been explained to correspondents that the decision to confirm the tolls increase order made by the former metropolitan county council was taken on the basis of the evidence presented at a public inquiry. The reasons were fully set out in the decision letter of 25 July. It would have been inappropriate to reopen the matter.
