asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take the initiative in the United Nations, with the support of the European Community, to give UNIFIL the power and authority to carry out the mandate under Security Council Resolution 425; and whether United States support for such a move is now assured.

We and our EC partners will continue to support UN efforts to promote progress towards complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon and deployment of UNIFIL to the international border in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 425. The United States voted in favour of Security Council Resolution 425 and of the removal of UNIFIL's mandate last July.
