HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 c798W
Mr. Kaufman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the total number of persons in possession of visas for entry into the United Kingdom in 1985–86 who were subjected to examinations by immigration officers.

Mr. Waddington

All passengers seeking entry to the United Kingdom are examined by an immigration officer. No separate record is kept either of the number of passengers holding visas who seek entry or of the number of such passengers who are required to submit to further examination.

Mr. Kaufman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the countries whose nationals require visas to visit the United Kingdom.

Mr. Waddington

The "Statement of Change in the Immigration Rules" (Cmnd. 9914) sets out a revised appendix to the immigration rules (HC 169 as amended) specifying the overseas nationals who need visas for the United Kingdom. I have today announced that further changes will be made to the immigration rules to add Ghana to the appendix with effect from 23 October 1986, and in due course Nigeria.
