§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how United Kingdom frontier controls against terrorism and the import of illegal drugs will be affected by the proposed single European market in the European Economic Community;
(2) what changes are envisaged in British frontier controls over the movement of people and goods, during the transition to a single European market in the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. WaddingtonCommunity discussions on possible changes in frontier controls are at an early stage. As it is 807W not clear what measures will be adopted at Community level, it is not possible to say what consequential changes may be made in British frontier controls. However, the general declaration on the articles of the Single European Act dealing with the Community's internal market makes clear that the right of member states to take any measures considered necesary to deal with terrorism and the traffic in drugs will not be affected.
