HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 c819W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information he has as to when the inquiry conducted by Mr. Colin Sampson into allegations concerning the Royal Ulster Constabulary will be completed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

Mr. Sampson is expected shortly to complete the report requested by the Chief Constable of the RUC into allegations of misconduct by members of the RUC. It will then be submitted to the Chief Constable of the RUC; the Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland will also receive a copy and will consider what directions to give as to criminal prosecutions.

It would be wrong to comment on specific allegations against any individual until after any criminal or disciplinary proceedings have been completed. However, I shall, at the earliest opportunity make a statement on matters of more general interest in Northern Ireland arising from the report.
