HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 cc860-1W
27. Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent discussions he has had with representatives of the north west regional health authority about the future funding of the authority; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

We have frequent discussions with chairmen and general managers of all regional health authorities on funding for the National Health Service, including the Northern regional health authority. We are firmly committed to the principle of equitable distribution of resources and, as regions approach their targets, it is important that these reflect relative need as fairly as possible. The review of the RAWP formula, which is currently under way, is looking at the scope for improving measurement of need and has included wide-ranging consultations with health authorities and other interested parties. It is too soon to speculate on the outcome of the review but we expect an interim report later this year.
