§ Mr. Cashasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons over the age of 65 years have the earnings rule applied to them.
§ Mr. LyellThe rule applies to women aged 60–64 and men aged 65–69. An estimated 3,500–4,000 people are affected. A further 100,000 people are estimated to be deferring retirement, probably because they would be affected by the earnings rule.
These figures are based on 1982–83 survey data. Up-to-date information should be available in early 1987.
