§ Mr. Kaufmanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report a statement showing in respect of each police force division in England and Wales (a) the total number of offences notified to the police in 1985 and (b) the percentage change in the above total compared to the total so notified in 1978.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe information that is collected centrally relates to entire police force areas. Numbers of notifiable offences recorded by each police force in 1985 have been published in Home Office statistical bulletin issue No. 4/86 (table 6), and corresponding figures for 1978 were published in the Command Paper "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" for that year. (Cmnd. 7670, table 32). A revised set of counting rules was introduced at the beginning of 1980 so that figures for 1980 onwards are not precisely comparable with those for earlier years.
