HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 c784W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received concerning the sale of radio equipment to Chile for policing purposes; what his response was; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

None.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what principles govern the United Kingdom's trade with Chile; if any changes are envisaged following the reimportation of a state of siege by the Pinochet Government on 7 September; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

The policy of Her Majesty's Government is that civil trade with Chile, as with other countries, should be determined by commercial considerations and not by the character of the Governments of those countries. There are no plans to change this policy.
