Whether they now admit that the accusations of criminal activities by M 15 made by Miss Cathy Massiter are true and if so whether they will publish an account of what has taken place together with a statement of their plans to ensure that there is no recurrence.
The Minister of State, Home Office (The Earl of Caithness)I would refer the noble Lord to what my right honourable friend the then Home Secretary said in another place on 12th March 1985 in relation to the allegations made by Miss Massiter in the television programme "M 15's Official Secrets" (Official Report, House of Commons, 12th March 1985; cols. 152–156). I would also draw the noble Lord's attention to the subsequent announcement by my right honourable friend the Attorney General that, following investigation by the Metropolitan Police, the Director of Public Prosecutions had decided (with the Attorney General's authority) that there were no grounds for further action in relation to the allegations of criminal offences which were made in the programme (Official Report, House of Commons, 30th April 1985; col. WA 71).
