HL Deb 17 October 1986 vol 480 c1093WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With what justification the courts have banned the Observer and the Guardian, but no other media organs, from making reports concerning MI5.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Hailsham of Saint Marylebone)

The decision of the courts was made in response to an application by the Attorney-General for an interlocutory injunction. No final judgment on the merits has been delivered, and the matter therefore remainssub judice. The justification for decisions of courts is not one for which Her Majesty's Government are responsible.
