HL Deb 16 October 1986 vol 480 c1015WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are taking any action over "the controversy surrounding the Guinness Company" reported by the Observer.

Lord Lucas of Chilworth

My honourable and learned friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Corporate and Consumer Affairs considered the possibilities for action, including an investigation under the Companies Act. He concluded, in the light of all the circumstances—Culmination in the Extraordinary General Meeting— that such action would not be justified.
