HL Deb 06 October 1986 vol 480 cc113-4WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish in the Official Report the additional cost of a new dwelling priced at £50,000 to the purchaser if value added tax was imposed in accordance with the EC Sixth Directive.

Lord Young of Graffham

Her Majesty's Government do not accept that the Sixth Directive requires such an imposition. If it did, however, the additional cost would depend on the rate of tax imposed, and the state of market conditions at the time might affect the new pricing decision.
