HL Deb 26 November 1986 vol 482 cc633-4WA
Lord Sudeley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether unlawfully begotten children will have the right of inheritance over the estates and lands of peers when the title is inherited by a brother or cousin, there being no other heirs of the body.

The Lord Chancellor

Under the Family Law Reform Bill illegitimate children, being unable to succeed to titles of honour, will not become entitled to succeed to property limited to devolve with such titles, but subject to the overriding right of testation in respect of any other property they will have the same rights of succession as other children.
