HL Deb 25 November 1986 vol 482 c533WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the original approved capital cost together with the actual capital cost of each nuclear power station commissioned in the United Kingdom within the last 10 years.

Viscount Davidson

The information is as follows:

Station Original date of approval Original cost at date of approval Final/current estimated cost on same price basis as column (3)
(1) (2) (3) (4)
£m £m
Hinkley Point 'B' Sept 1966 117 142
Dungeness 'B' March 1965 111 267
Hartlepool May 1967 117 257
Heysham I Dec 1969 168 282
Hunterston B March 1968 114 132
The second reactor at Dungeness 'B' and both reactors at Hartlepool and Heysham I have not been formally commissioned (this takes place when their capacity is added to the CEGB's Declared Net Capability), although these stations have of course generated substantial amounts of power in the past few years. The more recent stations at Heysham II and Torness are being completed at a cost much closer to the original estimates.
