§ Mr. TraceyThe latest figures available in the "General Household Survey 1983" estimate that 3.9 per cent. of the population in England and Wales—1.5 million people—over the age of 16 participate regularly in the sport. From these and other figures from the "General Household Survey" on participation in sports, the Sports Council concludes that angling is the third most popular outdoor sporting activity after walking/rambling and swimming.
