HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c35W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will introduce legislation to confer powers on environmental health officers to close a school if they believe that any aspect of the school presents a serious health risk to pupils and staff; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

We have no plans at present to make changes in these arrangements. There are sufficient powers under existing legislation to prevent a school from being used if it is a danger to public health. My right hon. Friend is aware of problems in the Bradford area and will shortly be meeting a deputation.
