HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c30W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received in the past six months on the subject of the provision and nutritional quality of Welsh school means; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

In the past six months I have received two letters concerning the provision of school meals. Both raised fears that children of parents in receipt of family income supplement might lose entitlement to free meals as a result of the new Social Security Act.

Although the entitlement to free school meals will be lost when the changes become operative in April 1988, it is intended that benefit will generally be provided in the form of a cash increase in family credits.

No representations have been received in the past six months in respect of the nutritional quality of Welsh school meals.
