HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c34W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what provision for rural schools is included in the public expenditure increase for education in the autumn statement.

Mr. Dunn

The increase of 18.8 per cent. in the Government's plans for local expenditure on education in 1987–88 does not distinguish between types of school. It allows scope for local education authorities generally to enhance provision in all schools, according to local needs and priorities. The distribution of rate support grant takes into account factors such as the increased cost of education in sparsely populated areas.
