HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c49W
Mr. Fatchett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many of the prisoners in Her Majesty's prison, Leeds on 7 November were sharing a cell with (a) three other prisoners and (b) two other prisoners;

(2) how many prisoners on the latest available figures were sharing a cell with (a) three other prisoners and (b) two other prisoners.

Mr. Mellor

The number of prisoners sharing cells certified for one prisoner is recorded centrally only once a month. On 12 October there were 4,350 prisoners held three to a cell and 12,972 held two to a cell in England and Wales of whom 172 and 921 respectively were in Her Majesty's prison, Leeds. No prisoners were held four to a cell.
