§ Mrs. RumboldThe main aim of the Department's policies is to improve standards in all sectors of education whilst at the same time making best use of the resources available. On 6 November, my right hon. Friend announced an additional £2.25 billion for education in 1987–88, including some £500 million for improving school teachers' pay and conditions of service. These policies should improve the morale of those engaged in the education service.
