Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the number of National Health Service hospitals and the number of beds in those hospitals which were opened in each year since 1956.

Information from 1956 is not accessible centrally and, if available, could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. Information held on the beds provided in hospital building schemes each costing over £1 million completed in each year since 1979 were:
