HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 cc4-5W
Miss Boothroyd

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has at to (a) the mark placed on West German electrical goods denoting compliance with EEC Directive 73/23 and (b) the electrical specifications of such mark; what are the parallel specifications of the United Kingdom mark; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

In answer to the first part of the question, I have received notification in accordance with article 10 of EEC directive 73/23 (the low voltage directive) of the bodies recognised by the administrative authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany as being authorised to establish marks or certificates. The list of bodies is published in the administrative guidance to the United Kingdom Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations.

In answer to the second part, it is not an obligation for the administrative authorities of member states to supply this information in order to comply with the provisions of EEC directive 73/23. I am therefore not in a position to supply the parallel United Kingdom specifications.

Miss Boothroyd

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has as to the degree of West Germany's compliance with EEC council directive 73/23 of 19 February on harmonisation of electrical equipment.

Mr. Giles Shaw

As far as the Government are aware, the Federal Republic of Germany complies with the provisions of EEC directive 73/23.

Miss Boothroyd

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received from manufacturers during each of the last three years concerning restrictions on the use of (a) luminaires, (b) other domestic electrical equipment and (c) all other electrical equipment in West Germany; whether he will publish in the Official Report the content of such representations, indicating his response or any action taken; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I am aware of no other representations except those by the hon. Member and the Lighting Industry Federation. These are being followed up.
