HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c119W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether regional health authorities have ever referred to his Department the issue of the suitability of individuals for appointment to district health authorities.

Mr. Newton

No. Regional health authorities may, from time to time, seek general advice on the regulations and guidance governing health authority appointments, as North Western regional health authority did earlier this year in respect of an appointment to Oldham health authority about which the hon. Member for Oldham, West (Mr. Meacher) corresponded with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State. The appointment of individual members of district health authorities is entirely a matter for the appropriate regional health authority and the relevant local authorities.
