asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has any plans to abolish child's special allowances; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lyell

A commencement order was published on Friday 21 November, which will bring section 40 of the Social Security Act 1986 into force on 6 April 1987 when child's special allowance will be abolished except for the 780 existing beneficiaries.
