HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c50W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions his Department has held with French Railways, the European Commission and British Rail on the harmonisation of immigration controls on Channel tunnel trains; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waddington

No discussions of the sort referred to by the hon. Member have taken place. However, British and French Government officials, including representatives of my Department, are negotiating arrangements for frontier controls in respect of the Channel tunnel. My officials are also in touch with British Rail about the arrangements for immigration control for trains travelling to and from London and beyond via the Channel tunnel.
