HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c8W
Dr. Bray

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make it his policy not to accept cuts in plate or strip capacity at British Steel Corporation Ravenscraig and Dalzell works as part of the 11.9 million tonnes voluntary cuts in capacity which are to be proposed by Eurofer by 1 March 1987.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Decisions on the future of any works of the British Steel Corporation are subject to the strategy agreed with the Government and announced in August 1985. It will be for the corporation to consider, in the light of that strategy, what part it might play in the development of Eurofer's proposals for Europe as a whole.
