Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much is earmarked for the assisted places scheme in 1986–87, and 1987–88; and how much since the scheme's inception has been paid in each operative year for (a) school uniforms for the assisted places scheme and (b) travel grants.

The allocation for the financial year 1986–87 is £1,090,000 and subject to parliamentary approval, proposed expenditure for 1987–88 is £1,347,000. Payments in respect of costs incurred on school uniform and travel grants are shown in the following table. There are still some claims outstanding:
