§ 80. Mr. Baldryasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of initiatives within the Council of Ministers of the European Community to combat terrorism.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI refer my hon. Friend to the reply that my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State gave the hon. Member for East Kilbride (Dr. Miller) on 29 October, at column177, and the statements made on 28 October, at column 167, and 14 November, at column 221, by my right hon. and learned Friend.
On 10 November my right hon. and learned Friend was able to announce on behalf of 11 member states a number of measures designed to strengthen counter terrorist cooperation and to send a clear signal to Syria. These decisions demonstrate the continuing resolve among our EC partners to co-operate in adopting practical counterterrorist measures. In addition, my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary, as President, has ensured that the TREVI machinery has been used to the full in the fight against terrorism.
