§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe numbers of notifiable offences recorded and cleared up by the police in each offence category are published each year in the command paper "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (Chapter 2) and most recently in a Home Office Statistical Bulletin (Table 5 of issue number 4/86). The figures for violence against the person and sexual offences in 1978 and 1985 are summarised in the following table.
