HC Deb 17 November 1986 vol 105 c29W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what Government funding is to be provided for the next 12 months to organisations aiding the victims of crime.

Mr. Nicholls

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on Government measures to assist the victim support movement.

Mr. Mellor

During the current financial year, 1986–87, the Home Office is providing a grant of £150,000 to the National Association of Victims Supports Schemes, together with 036,000 to assist local schemes which are experiencing financial difficulties. In 1987–88, as well as renewing the grant to NAVSS, the Home Office intends to make £2 million available in further support for local schemes, as the first stage in a new programme of funding totalling £9 million over three years. The primary purpose of this funding is to support full-time, salaried coordinators. Many victims support groups, like other voluntary organisations, also receive assistance under a variety of general central Government programmes, in particular the urban programme and the MSC voluntary projects and community programmes.
