HC Deb 17 November 1986 vol 105 cc69-70W
Mr Patchett

asked the Paymaster General how many cases of occupational lead poisoning have been recorded in Britain for each year since 1974 (Health and Safety at Work Act); and how many of these cases each year were in the lead/acid battery manufacturing industry.

Mr. Trippier

The table below shows the total number of cases of lead poisoning reported each year. I regret that there is no full information about how many of these were in the battery manufacturing industry.

Number
1974 36
1975 27
1976 31
1977 12
1978 14
1979 8
1980 11

results in the higher end of the range are thus more an indication of the frequency of sampling than of the number of workers with those levels.

Number
1981 3
1982 4
1983 1
1984 3
1985 5
