Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will set out the types of industrial and consumer goods imported from Japan into the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will set out the type of industrial and consumer goods which are exported to Japan; and if he will make a statement;

(3) what was the balance of trade between the United Kingdom and Japan for the years 1975 to 1980, 1980 to 1985 or the latest available figure; and if he will make a statement.

The crude balance of trade with Japan for the period 1975 to 1980 showed a deficit of £4,123 million, and for the period 1980 to 1985 a deficit of £13,179 million. The 10 major commodities traded with Japan in 1985 were as follows:
