§ Mr. MacGregorIn the United Kingdom, underlying average earnings increased by 7½ per cent. in the year to August 1986. The most recent figures show earnings rising by 1.9 per cent. on a year earlier in the United States, by 1.7 per cent. in West Germany and by 2.1 per cent. in Japan.
