HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 cc554-5W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the assistance given by his Department to the British citizens recently expelled from Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Renton

The FCO has given all assistance requested to those British nationals who have had to ,leave Saudi Arabia recently. The majority left after their contracts with the military hospital had been terminated because they had failed to conform to Saudi customs and laws. We understand that this was a stipulation in their contracts.

In the case of the three British women and two British men who were arrested, consular visits were made while they were being held. The two men were deported on 4 November and the three women were deported on 6 November.
