HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 c523W
Ms. Clare Short

asked the Paymaster General if he will publish the latest estimate of the number of interviews carried out under the restart scheme together with the results of these interviews in placing people into jobs, the community programme, jobclubs, enterprise allowance scheme, restart courses, training courses, voluntary projects programmes, and other outcomes.

Mr. Lee

By 9 October, 366,451 people had been counselled under restart:

2,547 were placed in jobs
9,757 were placed on the community programme
2,890 were placed in jobclubs
1,585 were placed on the enterprise allowance scheme
31,012 started restart courses
5,488 started training courses
672 joined the voluntary projects programme or began other voluntary work
104 started a course at an employment rehabilitation centre

The above placings reflect only those arising from referrals made at the restart interview. They do not reflect people who find jobs, or other solutions to their unemployment, wholly or partly as a result of advice given by counselling staff or restart courses. The Manpower Services Commission does not follow the progress of individuals once they have been counselled under restart.
