HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 c572W
Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the number of patients (a) admitted to hospital and (b) detained in hospital under sections 18, 24 and 26, respectively, of the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1984.

Mr. Rifkind

Detailed statistics on the number of patients admitted to hospital under these provisions are published in the annual reports of the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland, copies of which are available in the Library.

Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many patients were received into guardianship under Part V of the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1984 in the 12 months immediately following implementation of the Act.

Mr. Rifkind

This information is not available in the form requested; but at the beginning of 1985 there were 84 patients under guardianship. In that year 27 patients were discharged from guardianship and 15 new guardianship orders were made. At the end of 1985 there were thus 72 patients under guardianship in Scotland. Information on patients under guardianship is published in the annual reports of the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland, copies of which are available in the Library.
