§ Mr. Wallerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the extent of the correlation between the use by young people of amusement arcades and their subsequent acquisition of a gambling habit.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggWe have noted carefully reports which suggest that some young people in some areas may have acquired a habit of gambling on amusement machines, and we shall continue to monitor the situation. However, there seems at present to be little hard evidence about the extent to which use of amusement machines may lead to the acquisition of a habit, either as regards these machines or, subsequently, other forms of gambling.
§ Mr. Wallerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to restrict the age at which children may enter amusement arcades; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggWe have at present no plans to do so.
