HC Deb 04 November 1986 vol 103 c370W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has received regarding the position in the talks on the pay of teachers in England and Wales.

Mrs. Rumbold

My right hon. Friend has received some 200 letters since the Coventry meeting in July. Nearly all have been critical of the Coventry heads of agreement The most common criticism has been the reduced differentials for the present scale 4 and senior teachers. Other criticisms have included the long period of assimilation to the proposed new pay scale, and the reduced opportunities for promotion.
