§ 45. Mrs. Clwydasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consultations took place between his Department and the United States Administration concerning the arms control position adopted by the United States Government at Reykjavik.
§ Mr. RentonIn addition to the usual and continuous process of Alliance consultation, senior United States officials briefed the North Atlantic Council shortly before the Reykjavik meeting. Since then close consultation has continued, including bilateral contacts, the meeting of the North Atlantic Council on 13 October with Secretary Shultz, and the nuclear planning group meeting on 21–22 October. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister is visiting the United States on 15 November for discussions with President Reagan.
§ 47. Mr. Strangasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consultations he has had with his European colleagues in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation about the proposals made at the Reykjavik summit; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RentonMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence met NATO Defence Ministers of the nuclear planning group at its meeting at Gleneagles on 21–22 October.
I also attended a meeting of the North Atlantic Council on 13 October, which discussed the Reykjavik outcome with Secretary Shultz.
