HC Deb 04 November 1986 vol 103 cc375-6W
Mr. Holt

asked the Paymaster General what plans there are to assist more easily and generously long-term unemployed men and women to relocate to take up employment.

Mr. Lee

Long-term unemployed people, like other jobseekers, may apply for assistance under the travel to interview scheme, which pays fares to jobseekers attending interviews with employers beyond daily travelling distance of their homes. Restart interviewers give long-term unemployed people advice about this scheme in appropriate cases. There are no plans at present to extend this scheme.

Mr. Holt

asked the Paymaster General how many men and women over 50 years of age who had been long-term unemployed are now in full-time employment in the northeast region.

Mr. Lee
