HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 c309W
Mr. Lilley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he has taken to publicise to retailers the information that certain solvents can be abused in a manner similar to glue.

Mr. Howard

The Department of Health and Social Security has issued guidelines for shop managers listing the type of product liable to be abused by sniffing, in a manner similar to glue. In addition, Re-Solv, the charity set up by the industry, has issued guidelines to retailers which also list these products. Finally, the Department of Trade and Industry is co-sponsoring a video training film for retailers and their staff which covers the types of product likely to be sniffed. Copies of the two sets of guidelines have been placed in the Library.
