HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 cc344-5W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what financial provision is to be made available to the London borough of Greenwich for the sweeping of the four main trunk roads in the borough; how this compares with the allocation made by the former Greater London council; and how frequently his Department now expects those roads to be swept compared with the past.

Mr. David Mitchell

Next year's allocations have not been made. Sweeping for highway safety and maintenance is governed by the Department's code of practice, while that for health and amenity purposes is a borough responsibility. Variations to the code have been drawn up to reflect the special problems of London roads. The detailed application within individual boroughs will continue to be discussed with them.
