HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 c321W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Northamptonshire as to the circumstances in which on Monday 20 October officers, out of uniform and hatless, in an unmarked car, on the M I northbound stopped a woman driving alone and did not immediately offer visual or verbal proof of their identity; and if he will make a statement on the substance of the report.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The enforcement of road traffic law, including the policy on the use of unmarked vehicles, is a matter for individual chief officers of police. I understand that in this case the officers made use of the police vehicle's blue flashing lights and two tone horn to stop a driver suspected of exceeding the speed limit, and that the officers were wearing uniform.
