§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will extend the use of milk tokens to the purchase of soya milk; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. CurrieWhere a clinical need exists, certain approved soya-based milks are available free on prescription to mothers and children who qualify for this benefit. Generally, however, I am advised that cows' milk is nutritionally better than soya milk as a source of energy, protein, calcium and other minerals, and certain vitamins essential for the growth of a healthy child. No change in the present welfare milk arrangements is therefore envisaged.
